Japan - I'm matching donations...

Update - 03.16

I just wanted to thank all of you for your help. I hit my goal today, so now I have to bow out and leave things to the heavy hitters, like Eric Schmidt and Abenity.com, amongst others.

Thanks to you all my email folder looks like this...and it's a great sight.

I'm sure by now you have all either read about and/or seen the situation in Japan. Unfortunately, the only way I know how to help right now is via donations, but instead of just going it alone, I thought I'd try to match donations to double the impact.

So, I'm willing to match any donations up to $500. I know it's not a lot, but I figure every little bit helps.

I don't know the best way to do this, but if you donate to something directly related to the efforts, just post the amount in a comment or send it to me via email, ooneill2011@kellogg.northwestern.edu, and I'll match it via a Red Cross donation to the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund.

No need to send me a receipt or anything...I'm going off of the Kellogg Honor Code here.

Thanks.

And for anyone interested, I got the heads up that you can donate directly to the Japanese Red Cross through this Google link: http://www.google.com/crisisresponse/japanquake2011.html

  13. Thank you for your generosity! You might be interested to also know that Google CEO, Eric Schmidt and his wife Wendy have committed to matching the first $100,000 donated through http://citizeneffect.org/projects/japan-earthquake-relief-fund which I believe will go directly to the Red Cross

Here's the CNBC article about it:

  14. Hey Orlando, a friend from Kellogg class of 2010 forwarded me me your page. Great job with the matching, it really shows the kind heart of the Kellogg students.

I actually read that CNBC article about Eric Schmidt matching the $100k, and I've donated through Citizen Effect:

"Eric Schmidt, Google Chairman & CEO's Japan Earthquake Relief Fund Project
Thank you, Paul for your generous contribution! You've donated $50.00"

Best of luck with the rest of the school year.

  18. Thanks a lot Bo! I wish that I could match it, but I've exhausted my fund :(

Hopefully the app will be approved sometime soon. Have a great break.

  19. Thoughts and prayers are with the Japanese in their time of need. I admire their enduring spirit and cannot imagine what it would be like if this were to happen to us.

I'm so grateful when I see people like you giving as much as they can to this cause. I commend your kindness.

    God bless
